Caradigm provides a solution to help you correlate patient identifiers across multiple disparate organizations and source systems to meet the data and workflow requirements for provider population health initiatives.


Data aggregation, data exchange and workflows across various systems and organizations are key elements required by todays Healthcare IT projects. In addition to moving data, the ability to uniquely identify records and their contextual relationships is key to efficient, accurate and meaningful interoperability.

Having an Enterprise Master Patient Index (EMPI) will allow the correlation of patient IDs across various systems and settings like EMRs, IDNs and ACOs.


Caradigm offers a solution from NextGate that creates a centralized, singular and reliable index of a patient’s information integrated with Caradigm Intelligence Platform (CIP). The NextGate EMPI OEM version offered by Caradigm, will examine patient records from other systems, link related records together under an Enterprise Unique Patient Identifier (EUID) and create a Single Best Record (SBR) entry. Using the EUID as a “key”, personnel and applications can find, exchange, and view data on the same patient, in the original context. By associating patient records that are scattered across disparate systems, the EMPI enables a comprehensive patient view and accurate data exchange.

The NextGate EMPI OEM version offered by Caradigm is an option to CIP and CIP applications. By pulling together registration and clinical data from those institutions in the patient’s longitudinal record, you see a comprehensive and efficient view of clinical, eligibility, and claims data all surfaced through Caradigm’s applications.


How it works



Key components of this solution include:

   -   MatchMetrix Server: Where intelligent matching algorithms to recognize related person information spread across        different applications with varying local identifiers, are merged together under an Enterprise Identifier in a        comprehensive master index.

   -   Data Quality Manager: The web-based management interface for searching, viewing, editing, merging, un-merging,        tracking records, and various other operations within the EMPI.

   -   Access Manager: Where the management of user access is done. Access Manager utilizes Role Based Access        Control (RBAC) to define privileges and access based on User ID profiles. This allows only authorized users are        allowed to view/access patient information, down to a data element.

   -   Enterprise Transaction Registry (ETR): A comprehensive view of your EMPI landscape to help manage        transactions, do troubleshooting, track activity from all participating organizations, and compile reports that        examine policy compliance such as HIPAA disclosure, security provisions, and site-specific initiatives. ETR can        maintain a log of all searches, search results, data access and views, and any edits to the data.

   -   PIX/PDQ Integration Profiles: Standard interface mechanism in the EMPI allowing healthcare providers to locate a        patient's Electronic Health Record information across multiple systems through a standardized Application        Programming Interface (API).

   -   NextGate Messaging Server (NGMS): NextGate’s integration engine solution, which supports IHE standard        interfaces to the NextGate MatchMetrix Registries.

   -   NGMS Scorecard: This Audit Service keeps track of all integration steps for a given message instance and ensures        that all expected processing stages have been completed.

   -   NGSM Connector to CIP: This connector is the foundation of how CIP uses the NextGate MatchMetric EMPI and        integration services (via NGMS) that adhere to CIP messaging standards.

   -   X12 Claims to HL7 ADT Transformer: The X12-to-HL7 ADT transformer pulls patient identifiers and demographics        from an X12 837 or 835, creates an ADT, and processes it into the EMPI and forwards it into the consolidated,        standardized ADT feed for CIP.
